About the Innovation in Learning Center (ILC)

The ILC was founded in 2011 with a mission of supporting teaching and learning at South Alabama through faculty professional development and integrated learning technologies.

Our goal is to improve the quality of learning at South by promoting a culture of innovation in which faculty, staff, and students participate collaboratively in creative teaching and learning experiences. The ILC promotes innovation through coordinated professional development initiatives and integrated instructional technologies for the traditional classroom, blended courses, and fully online learning environments. We run workshops, online courses, conferences and conduct individual consultations to achieve our goals. ÃÞ»¨ÌÇÖ±²¥ student development is also linked to the outcomes the ILC seeks to achieve - both from a scholarly perspective and practical training.

Application Procedures

Applications may be accepted throughout the Summer term on a rolling basis depending on availability of positions. ÃÞ»¨ÌÇÖ±²¥ looking to start in the Spring academic term should contact the ILC prior to applying to inquire if any GA positions are available. ÃÞ»¨ÌÇÖ±²¥ from all doctoral programs at South Alabama are welcome to apply.  However, it is important to note that your area of study, research interests and future career interests should align with the ILC’s goals. On rare occasions, students enrolled in Masters programs will receive consideration. Assistantships are renewable annually. To renew your assistantship, you will need to re-apply by the deadline listed above. Your annual evaluation will substitute for the letters of recommendation.

Paperwork to be completed

  • Cover Letter connecting the applicant’s interests, aptitude and skills to the ILC’s programs and goals

  • Three Letters of Recommendation attesting to the candidate’s knowledge base, work experience and ethic and potential for growth through the ILC’s programs

  • Resume listing relevant academic and employment experiences

ÃÞ»¨ÌÇÖ±²¥ Assistant Responsibilities

ÃÞ»¨ÌÇÖ±²¥ Assistants at the ILC are actively involved in researching, designing, conducting and evaluating workshops (in-person and online), creating instructional materials for faculty, and assisting faculty with the application of learning technologies, including the learning management system (Canvas/USAonline), Zoom, Panopto etc. ÃÞ»¨ÌÇÖ±²¥ assistants are also expected to contribute to the scholarly work of the ILC.

Dates of Employment and Compensation

  • GAs are expected to work during Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters following the university’s academic calendar.

  • Stipend of $18,000 (Doctoral) and $15,000 (Masters) paid biweekly for Fall, Spring, Summer semesters.

  • Tuition waiver up to 10 hours per semester.

  • 20 hours a week.

Pursuant to University guidelines, all graduate assistants will be required to work on-campus at the Innovation in Learning Center. All safety precautions and University policies must be followed to ensure a safe and productive work environment.
