A 2013 Oxford Martin School study estimates that 47 percent of all jobs could be automated in the next 20 years. Adapting to technology will be important in the development of new jobs and economic growth. This is what the University of South Alabama had in mind when it recently joined the Advanced Robotics for Manufacturing (ARM) Institute.

ARM is the nation鈥檚 leading public-private collaboration in industrial robotics and workforce innovation. Its goal is to increase 棉花糖直播n manufacturing and develop sustainable careers. More than 150 organizations throughout the country in industry, government and academia are members of ARM. USA is the only member institution in Alabama.

鈥淯SA will share resources with other members in the ARM network and focus initially on educational and workforce development projects,鈥 said Dr. Michael Chambers, USA鈥檚 associate vice president for research innovation.

As a member of ARM, USA will have more opportunities for collaboration and access to resources throughout the region. The University will also have a role in the mission of robotic innovation and job development.

鈥淎RM membership is another example of our focus on public-private collaborations to advance the commercialization of technology,鈥 Chambers said.
